Samsonite

The notion 'design' is almost always associated with furniture, cars and architecture. And yet, it is also inextricably linked to luggage.

Designing luggage does not only imply the creation of a beautiful shape. In the first place, a suitcase must be handy and user-friendly.

A new look...

Because of the ever-changing world of fashion, the discovery of new countries and cultures and all kinds of new trends, the consumer has become more demanding than ever before. The Samsonite design team are constantly thinking up new concepts and looks for new luggage lines as well as looking for new materials, parts and colours or other designs .

...should be practical too.

Decent design not only has a 'look' or a nice shape, it also implies the right choice of materials and user-friendliness. People do indeed want their suitcases to be solid, reliable and user-friendly. Luggage must be strong and be able to cope with tropical heat, freezing cold, dust and humidity. Luggage must also be easy to carry and to handle and should cause no maintenance problems. When designing, the designer takes the production process into account and looks for a way to produce the suitcase in an efficient and environment-friendly way. Design and product innovation are therefore totally reliant on science and technology, art and skill.

Its own design centres

Samsonite has its own designers and design centres in Europe. They continually research new designs, trendy colours and ever lighter materials.

Often, the company also addresses famous design agencies who then determine the line and design of the product.

New concepts

New needs also lead to new demands. As a pioneer, Samsonite tries to meet these demands immediately. An example is its new technological developments. The far-reaching miniaturisation of electronic devices and the revolution in the field of wireless communication have led to new phenomena such as the mobile office: the contemporary business man or woman travels a lot more than before and wants his/her computer, fax and I telephone within reach everywhere. Thanks to Samsonite, he or she can now take their office or clothes along in a suitcase on wheels. Samsonite stands for mobility without frontiers.
