MyBlanket

My Add On have again designed an item that improves the lives of wheelchair users: MyBlanket, a rain cover for the wheelchair users’ legs that can be put on without assistance or standing up. MyBlanket has several integrated functions with attention to autonomy, functionality and design: foldable K-way principle, quick to put on, extra zip-out calf protection flap, adjustable in size, hand warmers on the lap and an empty K-way bag that serves as a safe storage area at the back of the wheelchair or under the knees. This seemingly simple product was developed with input and feedback from wheelchair users, whose lives have been positively influenced by this handy tool.

What makes the project so special?

Marie Van den Broeck (My Add On): Our users really had to convince us to make “yet another” rain blanket. One they could put on themselves without help, because they had yet to find one anywhere. We worked with our users to create their ideal rain blanket for legs. This was a collaboration with our end users from start to finish.

How does it contribute to a better world?

Marie Van den Broeck: Freedom. We hear that from our users. The freedom to go out in the rain without getting wet or having to bring a carer. MyBlanket gives you the independence to get outside alone again and feel good about yourself!

Do you have any further plans for this project?

Marie Van den Broeck: Absolutely! There will soon be three additional variants: MyBlanket KIDS, for children between the ages of 8 and 12, and MyBlanket (X)XL, for plus-size people and the special e-step version to be able to fit a bar between your legs without having to feel cold.
