LYNE

The LYNE series is an example of this. Both white and coloured liquid porcelain is poured into a plaster mould layer after layer. After cutting away and finishing the upper edge, the different layers remain visible as a number of fine lines. The colour and the lines provide a beautiful contrast to the simple, understated form of the object. The so-called multi-layer slip-casting technique is extremely labour intensive and as a result, less suited to mass production.

It is a deliberate choice by Margot to produce her work herself in a limited series. It allows her to supply her customers with high quality and unique pieces. She uses the scraps cut from the upper edge to make gadgets, such as stirrers, buttons or coasters.

Margot’s choice of materials is also very deliberate. She opts for high quality, durable porcelain that feels robust but is nevertheless agreeable to use. The material is functional too: it retains the temperature of hot/cold drinks for longer.
