Every funeral is special and unique and remembrance after death can come in many ways. It was from this experience that Axel Enthoven developed the collection of headstones and funerary urns for Memory Stone, a subsidiary of Serax.
The Memory Stone models are available in three sizes of headstones and two urn stones. Each model is available in three colours: pebble white, grey and anthracite. They are made of lightweight concrete, developed specially for Memory Stone by a group of concrete specialists.
The models are suitable for a cemetery or an urn memorial, and an urn stone can be combined with a headstone. This makes it possible to respect and honour the individual wish of the person and to form a lasting unit after death.
The smallest Memory Stone is also suitable as a memorial for a natural burial. It requires no maintenance with the result that nature can develop nicely around the stone. The grave with the stone will become one with nature over the years.
“I do not know whether designing a headstone is enjoyable for a designer, but it is certainly fascinating, and when it leads to a rational solution, it is all the better,” Axel Enthoven says. “If you design in such a way that the final design turns out to be self-cleaning and maintenance friendly, if it is simple and easy to place, if it is solid and stable, if it looks simple and natural, and if it fits in all environments while still being timeless, then you have made a major step forward. From the emotional side, it must be a nod to those you have to leave behind. Simple and pure in form as a symbol of deserved rest: modest but present, iconic without conceit, inspired by nature and designed with respect.”
“Thanks to this award, we got a lot of interest from the design press and that helped to put our start-up brand on the map”
