The National Lottery supports the Henry van de Velde Awards, making the positive impact of design visible and accessible to a wider audience. We spoke to Jannie Haeck, CEO of the National Lottery.
It is well known that the National Lottery supports a lot of projects. Why do you support the Henry van de Velde Awards?
Jannie Haek: Of course, people first think of the big sporting and other events and others we support as the National Lottery, but our contribution goes far beyond that. We support projects and organisations that make a difference for a better and warmer society. We believe design is a powerful tool to make a broad difference in our daily lives. Design plays a key role in many sectors, from culture to healthcare, helping to make the world more accessible, beautiful, and functional.
By supporting the Henry van de Velde Awards, we want to make that positive impact of design visible and accessible to a broader audience, while contributing to a future in which innovation and creativity are at the heart. In this way, we highlight not only our social commitment, but also the importance of design as a driver of progress.
“Design plays a key role in many sectors, from culture to healthcare, helping to make the world more accessible, beautiful, and functional.”
What other projects do you support in which creative talents are used to achieve a better world?
Jannie Haek: We support a broad spectrum of projects and organisations, from art projects in museums to sustainable fashion and innovative healthcare solutions. We believe that creativity and creative entrepreneurship are the key to a better future and positive change in society. Thus, we are committed to a society in which everyone has their place, a society that matters to everyone.
How does that fit into the overall strategy of the National Lottery?
Jannie Haek: In the unique model of the National Lottery, we reach many people who enjoy playing our games responsibly and with limited stakes, and subsequently appreciate our resulting return to society. One hundred percent of our profits go to projects that make a difference. In doing so, we explicitly choose to invest in the future of young talented individuals in design, innovation, and creativity and to fund entrepreneurship that makes a difference. Thus, thanks to our players, we contribute to a society where everyone has a place.
