PureAura is a simple, low-cost, high-efficiency air purifier designed to improve air quality in small rooms.
PureAura is a simple, low-cost, high-efficiency air purifier designed to improve air quality in small rooms. It is a practical tool that could reduce short-term health risks for the residents of “subdivided” flats in Hong Kong. The compact and portable design, including a space for the powerbank at the back, a handle with a mounting hole and an elastic hanging loop, makes it ideal for use in cramped paces.
What makes the PureAura so beautiful is that it is a very affordably-priced item (15 euros) that has a real impact on people’s living conditions. It is an extraordinarily legitimate object that combines beauty and functionality.
It is great that a project with a small budget also qualifies for a design award. Cost was one of the key factors in this project. The aim was to maximise social impact at a low cost. This project also effectively demonstrates that design is more than just form and aesthetics. The overall impact of the project is what matters most. In addition, it is nice to see how enthusiastic our customer from Hong Kong is about winning an award in Belgium.
The idea for this project arose from the urgent need to improve air quality for low-income families in Hong Kong, who live in small and poorly ventilated “subdivided units”. Poor air quality increases the risk of health problems, such as lung cancer. This situation became worse during the corona pandemic, when children and the elderly were forced to stay indoors. The air purifier does not offer a comprehensive solution, but it is a practical tool that can improve users’ living environment in the short term.
The product is completely flatpack, making it easy to ship. What makes the product extra accessible is that it works on a powerbank, something people already have or can easily obtain. In addition, no glued joints have been used, so there are no fixed joints. Everything is easy to detach and replace, making it ideal for repairs or adjustments.
