Rubbish 2.0 is the winner of the award OVAM Ecodesign PRO - Product in ontwikkeling.
Wood is a natural product and a renewable resource. And yet in our consumer society, we would gain much by using as few resources as possible. In Flanders, there are several companies that produce wooden parquet flooring. These often use virgin materials. Wood scraps resulting from this kind of production are generally taken away to be burned, although using energy recovery. But other approaches are possible.
Rubbish 2.0 is a sustainable parquet floor made of wood scraps. Nobel Flooring went in search of a solution for the leftover planks that resulted from production. They sawed them down to size, sanded off the existing varnish, and then in a press with water-soluble wood glue they glued them together to form beams. The resulting beams were given a quarter turn and sawed once again into thin top layers. These top layers, with a characteristic pattern of lines, are then glued to plywood and made into sustainable flooring.
Nobel Flooring receives a monetary prize of 2 000 euros.
